Drones and Tree planting Rotorua
Tough terrain to negotiate but the kids from Rotorua Intermediate were absolute troopers!!!
There is much to be said about the correlation between exercise and cognitive health and today PTC in collaboration with Noel Leeming and Rotorua Zip Lines brought a smile to the faces of 23 pupils from Rotorua Intermediate School. The thuds of boots, flushed cheeks and increased heart rates were rewarded with the adrenaline rush they received from ziplining, tree planting and flying drones.
Armed with 50 young trees to plant, it was quite an uphill climb to get to the designated steep slopes where these new trees would help with soil retention, add diversity to the landscape and encourage wildlife habitat. That said, the visibly trapped possums seen on the way, may not be feeling too welcomed in terms of wildlife.
Five (5) coastal varieties of natives were selected for their suitability to thrive in the properties of this geothermal soil unique to Rotorua with its sparkling lakes and distinct aroma of high concentrations of hydrogen sulphide (H2S).
It is estimated that these trees would grow quickly to heights of 10-12 metres.
