Robotics at Fairfield
As the new term started for Aotearoa, students were faced with the devastating effect of Cyclone Gabrielle as it created devastation throughout parts of NZ. One of the key technologies used in the aftermath of its destructive path was a range of AI technology. As Urban search and rescue descended across various regions of Gisborne and Hawkesbay, drones were used to provide a depth of surveillance across the landscape.
The prevalence and utility of robotic technology became the primary driver of PTC’s robotic thrust this year. Its usefulness, benefit, and variety of applications were outlined by Dr Hin, David and Alicia from the Waikato University team. Students were very engaged as they saw “technology in action” throughout the recovery phase post-Cyclone Gabrielle. They were keen to give it a go and learn the key steps of building and programming their robotic device.
Activated students! Curiosity sparked!
Well done everyone….
