Drones and plastic management Palmerston North
Our year 7 and 8 students were very keen to learn how to code and fly a drone. Coding is a key skill to build logical thinking and problem-solving. Online chats like Snapchat, Whatsapp rely on various coding language. Understanding how to code is the first step enabling our youth to learn how to create a range of unique apps such as these.
Flying and navigation of their drone was next as they learnt how to navigate these unmanned aerial devices to identify the recyclable plastics collected.
As youth applied thinking and problem-solving skills in navigating the drones they potentially identified a range of plastics that are fit for recycling. According to a 2021 article ‘drones are used to produce high-resolution 3D Models of landfills, which helps to monitor how a landfill is changing over time, thereby saving the management team to avoid potentially hazardous and costly issues’ .
