Sustainable Fibres 1
PTC Trust collaborated with Dr Beg of the University of Waikato’s Centre for Advanced Materials and Manufacturing (WaiCAMM) in the School of Engineering to offer a workshop based on natural fibre composites and biodegradable plastics to our Tarawera rangatahi.
The kaupapa focused on fostering an appreciation amongst youth of how harakeke can be processed in NZ for 3D printing, processing of recycled milk bottles/paper for building materials and what it means to build a circular economy for the wellbeing of Aotearoa New Zealand.
Dr Beg, Prof. Kim Pickering and her team all work together in Āmiomio Aotearoa- a transdisciplinary, multi-partner research project that ‘is cyclical in nature and regenerative by design. Bringing together Mātauranga Māori and science, the concept aims to move beyond linear extract-produce-use-dispose material and energy flow models in order to optimise the value and use of products, components and materials over time’.
PTC Trust continues to upskill our youth in cutting edge technology that puts them at the heart of building a thriving and innovative future NZ.
